I'm so glad we did. Although he does not have chicken pox(thank goodness). The bad news is it is something called Erythema Multiforme Minor which is usually caused by an allergic reaction to penacillian. He has been on Augmentin for 9 days. He has taken this antibiotic about 10 times before, and we asked why it has happened this time. The pediatrician told us that a penacillian allergy builds up as time goes on. She actually had 4 shots as a kid and never had a problem. She got her 5th shot and stopped breathing. They had to rush her to the hospital, so it builds up and this type reaction does not come on until day 8-10 (which means yesterday). Now he has to go through some allergy testing to make sure that it is indeed an allergic reaction to penacillian and he is not to take it again.
We have to continue to watch him to make sure his feet and hands don't start swelling. If they do he is having a serum reaction next and something has to be done about it. He has continued to get more and more spots today and they start smal and then get large. The dr. said that they would continue to come on for 2-3 more days and then start to go away. Tonight when we put him to bed, they had spread to both ears now, not just one. They were all over his face and into his forehead now. His arms and legs are literally covered with them. Here are some pictures, but he is very wiggly, so we can't get a good picture to show the best perspective of what he really looks like, but he looks pretty bad.
