A weekend trip to the Pediatrician-Our Red Spotted Dalmation!

It was not a normal Saturday for us at all. We had to make a trip to the doctor today for Kendall. Yesterday after his nap these spots started popping up. I called the pediatrician because I thought it was the beginnings of chicken pox. They told me if he got any more spots I needed to call them back. Well last night when he went to bed, I stopped counting at 50 spots. They were just popping up everywhere. This morning he woke up with many more, so we decided to call and make an appointment.

I'm so glad we did. Although he does not have chicken pox(thank goodness). The bad news is it is something called Erythema Multiforme Minor which is usually caused by an allergic reaction to penacillian. He has been on Augmentin for 9 days. He has taken this antibiotic about 10 times before, and we asked why it has happened this time. The pediatrician told us that a penacillian allergy builds up as time goes on. She actually had 4 shots as a kid and never had a problem. She got her 5th shot and stopped breathing. They had to rush her to the hospital, so it builds up and this type reaction does not come on until day 8-10 (which means yesterday). Now he has to go through some allergy testing to make sure that it is indeed an allergic reaction to penacillian and he is not to take it again.

We have to continue to watch him to make sure his feet and hands don't start swelling. If they do he is having a serum reaction next and something has to be done about it. He has continued to get more and more spots today and they start smal and then get large. The dr. said that they would continue to come on for 2-3 more days and then start to go away. Tonight when we put him to bed, they had spread to both ears now, not just one. They were all over his face and into his forehead now. His arms and legs are literally covered with them. Here are some pictures, but he is very wiggly, so we can't get a good picture to show the best perspective of what he really looks like, but he looks pretty bad.

SPRING is on its way.....

As I walked down my front sidewalk this morning this is what I saw. My crocus have begun to bloom and my daffodils and tulips are not far behind. My daffodils have buds on them. Now we all know though as soon as the daffodils start to bloom we will get a cold spell. It never fails.

But for now....Spring is coming soon.

Racing Season has BEGUN!

Kendall and Daddy gearing up to watch the start of Race Season. Today marks the beginning of the season. The Daytona 500 is today and we had our annual lunch trip to Taco Bell to mark the day.

This is the only time Kendall has been awake today. He is not feeling real well today. He still has his cough and seems to be getting a fever. I hope he does not have the FLU or RSV.

Bath Time Fun

Kendall loves bath time! We got some more cute pictures, but I didn't think it would be good to be showing his booty online.
Can you believe he is 20 months old. It is so hard to believe that in just 4 months, he will be 2 years old.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was special this year. Kasey was finally able to come home from his business trip. He sent me some lily's to work. Kendall got his elmo chair you see him standing on. He LOVES to climb these days and uses anything to get up higher, or to get where he wants to be. Kasey and I had dinner at Simp McGhees in Decatur. This was the same place we had our first Valentine's dinner 5 yrs ago.
This other picture is of Kendall one year ago on Valentine's Day. He stayed with mom and dad last year while I went to New Mexico with Kasey. Unfortunatly I got very sick on the way out there and didn't get to have to much fun at all. Can you believe how much he has grown up!

I Didn't Knock Hard enough....

Apparently I did not knock on that wood hard enough the other day-Kendall has a cold. I'm also getting one, but how do I avoid it with him sick.

He is doing really well though considering. He is also getting 3 out of 4 of his last teeth before his 2yr old molars. He's getting his eye teeth right now, so he has a sore mouth too with his cold.

Kasey is traveling to North Carolina and Jacksonville this week.

On another note, I'm going to be 30 in just a few short weeks, and to celebrate the occasion Kasey and I are taking a trip to here: http://www.palaceresorts.com/Resorts/AventuraSpaPalace/Index.asp
for a week away. I can't wait, although I know I'm going to miss Kendall terribly. I will SURVIVE though.

Kendall's Post Op Appointment and More

Kendall had his post op appointment yesterday and everything looks WONDERFUL! His ears are clear and working just the way they should be now. This is such great news. It has been a little over two weeks and (knock on wood) Kendall has not had a cold or anything.

On another note, I have been having some ear pain since early January-about a month now. It is causing pretty bad headaches too and sometimes a little dizziness, so while I was at the ENT since I was already a patient, I had them take a look at me. My ears were clear. They did pressure tests, hearing tests, all sorts of things to rule out it being a problem with my ears. Well they came to the conclusion that it is like TMJ but with my muscle. It is myositis. It is more common in women and is usually caused by hormones(of course!)It seems like everything is caused by hormones. It is treatable and I got a nice regimen to start. It includes the following:
Modifying my diet to eat healthy but avoiding hard, crunch, tough and chewy foods.
Inhaling warm, moist heat
No gum chewing
No nail biting(a big habit of mine)
Take 3 advil 3 times a day for 3 weeks(should do my ulcer wonders)
Warm compress to jaw
Splint on my teeth that I wear at night to avoid clenching
Prescription(I think it is a muscle relaxer/pain pill in one)

Hopefully this will cure itself in a couple of weeks and I'll be trucking right along again. I'm having some bad luck this year and it is only February. I'm ready for a new start to this new year for sure.

Kasey is traveling this week. He got the joy of going to Fargo, ND and didn't bring his hat or gloves(big moron) I think the high is -7 today. Next week I think he is headed to NC and FL. I'm not sure yet.

Kendall is doing wonderful. He is learning all about climbing and will take his toys to the edge of the couch, so he can climb up on it. He then proceeds to roll off the couch and laugh about it. He is a tough kid. He has no pain at all.

Happy Mardi Gras!(Fat Tuesday) and Happy Super Tuesday!
